Business Intelligence Analyst

Our client is hiring a Business Intelligence Analyst that will be responsible for interacting with internal business associates (Customers) and leveraging analytic tools to address business questions and regulatory inquiries/exams. The candidate will help define requirements, assist in developing, and analyze output related to data analytics, reporting, and data mining for Business Intelligence and regulatory compliance. The BI Analyst will utilize databases, queries, reports, dashboards, and other BI tools in Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, MicroStrategy, ThoughtSpot, and other systems. This position requires solid technical skills, an analytical mindset, brokerage industry knowledge, and excellent communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Meet with Customers to understand business problems, regulatory inquiries, and questions; exploring options to model data driven platforms for analysis
  • Coordinate with Compliance Department to prepare responses to regulatory (SEC, FINRA, etc.), or legal data requests requiring a high degree of accuracy, consistency, and conformity with brokerage industry business practices
  • Become a trusted partner for Customers who translates business problems into analysis; then helps interpret the analysis into actionable steps
  • Collaborate with Data Architects to design, implement, and support BI Tools for reporting and analytics
  • Actively participate in the design, development, and maintenance of complex BI Dashboards, Reports, Queries, and integrated applications
  • Analyze and share results with users to ensure content meets business requirements; and train users to facilitate adoption and understanding of BI reports and tools
  • Proactively initiate projects and analysis targeting opportunities for revenue growth, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency
  • Communicate with senior management and enterprise staff regarding resources for facilitating a culture of data-driven decision making
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experienced, technical, and motivated problem solver; capable of understanding complex relationships and converting those to technical requirements defining a strategy to analyze the underlying data
  • Intellectual curiosity, inclination for independent and self-directed work, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills including: verbal, written, illustrative, data visualization, and presentation. Flexibility to interact with internal business customers, technical peers, management, and vendors on diverse topics
  • Solid knowledge of business practices of a regional broker/dealer
  • Eagerness to learn rapidly new tools, applications, and techniques for data analysis
Required skills/competencies:
  • Bachelor s Degree
  • Minimum of Four (4) years experience at a Broker/Dealer or Investment Adviser understanding the data needs of Compliance Department, Operations Department, Financial Advisors, or Investment Adviser Representatives; or as Business Intelligence Developer/Analyst, or Data Scientist with background in the Financial Services investing industry
  • Strong command of MS Excel
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouse environments, Analytic/Reporting tools, MS SQL
  • Understanding of fundamental Statistics principles and application
  • Excellent technical documentation skills
Preferred education/experience
  • Experience in the Compliance or Operations department at brokerage firm preferred
  • Working knowledge ThomsonReuters BETA platform
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Data Science, Statistical Mathematics, Information Systems, etc)
  • Business Intelligence Analytics experience
  • Data Science background (Data Mining, Predictive Analytics, etc.)
  • Certifications in BI analytics applications (MicroStrategy, Tableau, SAS, SAP, R, etc.)
  • Project Management experience (PMP, or related project management experience)
  • Financial Industry Registrations or certifications (Series 7, CFP, etc)
